2021 is upon us and this feels as good a time as any to relaunch my personal website which I believe has sat empty since the very early 2000’s despite having the domain secured for so long.
The start of a new year is a typical time to self-reflect, set goals, and – hopefully – get our lives in some semblance of order. I’ve not often fallen prey to this ‘new year, new me’ tradition many times before (except for that Veganuary year – here’s looking at you, 2017), but 2020 was, at best, downright uncomfortable year for… well, all of us. I’m very conscious of my relatively sheltered and privileged existence and extremely grateful for it, but it was still an entirely oppressive year by all accounts.
One of my resolutions this year is to spend less time endlessly and completely absent-mindedly scrolling through social media. I wish I could cut the proverbial cord entirely, however, I can’t imagine how I’d effectively keep up with the world without it anymore. I’m hoping that by deleting the apps from my phone I can regain a bit of conscious control over how often I’m checking my news feeds, and train myself out of the physical reflexes that lead me to unlock my phone, open the Instagram app, and start scrolling before I’ve even clocked that I’ve picked my phone up.
That’s partially what’s inspired me to start up this little blog – so I can focus a little more on creating and communicating than distractedly consuming endless images and videos. We’ll see how long that lasts, and I can’t promise this won’t turn into a hazy, Pinterest/Tumblr hybrid site of my own making, but why not stick around and find out?
If you’ve gotten this far – especially if you’ve come via one of my socials – thank you! I’m excited to re-enter the blogosphere (for the 57394th time) and I hope I’ll hear from you soon.
